John Brill is a partner at Ritholz Levy Fields LLP, where he focuses on transactional matters in the entertainment industry, with particular emphasis on music catalog and intellectual property asset acquisitions and digital distribution agreements.

His practice centers on the negotiation of complex content licensing, acquisition, recording and publishing agreements for and on behalf of record companies, music publishers, content providers, aggregators, and digital music services, including synchronization, master use, and performing rights organization (PRO) licensing clearances.

John represents both buyers and sellers in structuring, negotiating, and closing transactions involving music publishing and recorded music catalogs, including full ownership transfers and the sale of specific royalty streams.

He also regularly advises start-up and early-stage companies on music licensing needs and the legal implications of music usage, as well as on best practices for web-based products and data privacy. His work includes drafting and reviewing a wide range of commercial and intellectual property agreements, including IP assignments and licenses, privacy policies, and terms of use in support of his clients’ businesses.
