Partner Greg Weisman, together with litigator David Boren, launched the Los Angeles office of Ritholz Levy Fields in 2012. Greg is West Coast Chair of the firm’s cutting edge Apparel Industry Practice Group.
Greg’s practice encompasses a wide array of business and transactional matters, including trademark/copyright dispute and portfolio work, licensing, investment, M&A, corporate and LLC matters, the drafting and review of any and all types of business and commercial agreements, anti-trust and MAP/MSRP pricing concerns, insurance and financing/factoring issues, executive employment issues, partnership disputes, exit strategy and sale/merger transactions, and all business and legal matters germane to the branded consumer goods business in general, and the apparel, footwear, fashion accessories communities in particular.
Over the years, Greg’s business practice has expanded into the entertainment community, where he is honored to represent many of the highest-profile musicians, athletes, actors, models and other celebrities in connection with their branding, endorsement, merchandising and other “non-entertainment” and “off-the-field” business endeavors, both within and outside of apparel.
Greg has participated as a guest lecturer at FIDM, Otis College of Art & Design, the California Copyright Conference, the National Association of Record Industry Professionals (NARIP) and the International Textile & Apparel Association (ITAA) on business and legal issues concerning the fashion industry. He has lectured on brand licensing at the MAGIC apparel tradeshow in Las Vegas, hosted panels on Action Sports business issues at the AGENDA and ASR tradeshows, as well as on behalf of the Surf Industry Manufacturers’ Association (SIMA), the International Association of Skateboarding Companies (IASC), the Small Business Development Center, Fashion Business Inc. (FBI) and the California Fashion Association (CFA). Greg is a founding member and lecturer for the Licensing Committee of the IP Section of the California State Bar.
Greg is regularly quoted as an apparel & footwear industry expert by Forbes, California Apparel News, DNR, Transworld Business and Women’s Wear Daily (WWD). He has also been recognized by Los Angeles Magazine in its annual list of “Super Lawyers” from 2008-2019 and was formerly named to its list of “Rising Stars” from 2004-2007, an honor bestowed on the top 2.5% of attorneys under 40 in Southern California.
Prior to joining Ritholz Levy Fields, Greg was Chair of the Corporate Dept. at an established West LA business law firm, and he began his career as an IP litigator at a boutique firm, where he commenced his unique specialization in the representation of members of the fashion and action sports industries.
