Barry Perlman is a Partner of Ritholz Levy Fields LLP. Barry provides advice to media based clients on a variety of intellectual property, corporate and technology related matters in the fields of music, film, television, fashion, interactive entertainment, software development, on-line and mobile advertising, live event production and sports. Barry has expertise in complex copyright issues and routinely counsels his clients on issues surrounding interactive exploitation of content across all platforms.

Barry is a Certified Information Privacy Professional and regularly advises companies on Data and Information Privacy matters, including issues pertaining to the collection, retention, use, and disposal of online and mobile data as well as data breach incidents, privacy policies, forensic investigations, spyware, data security and industry self-regulatory requirements. Barry is an active member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals and InfraGuard (the public-private partnership between US businesses and the FBI).

Barry also provides counsel in a crisis management capacity and has assisted athletes, entertainers, executives and high net worth individuals with challenges pertaining to blackmail, kidnap and ransom, revenge attacks, background checks, asset recovery and criminal investigations. Barry’s ability to assess and manage reputational risk has on many occasions protected and preserved the integrity of his clients’ reputations and brands.

Earlier in his career Barry was a senior executive at EMI Recorded Music where he managed the business and legal affairs for Virgin Records, Astralwerks and Blue Note Records for more than 50 popular recording artists, such as Lenny Kravitz, Janet Jackson, Smashing Pumpkins, Ben Harper, and Daft Punk, among others.
